ARTS COUNCIL PROJECT
Adur children’s mosaic art project proposal.
Examples of our work linked to the three main aims of our project.
1. Working attentively with small groups of children
• Listening and letting their designs and ideas come to life.
• Inspiring young children to value art and develop their creative and practical skills.
• Improving mental wellbeing by focussing with the children on the mindful process of making a mosaic.
• Supporting children as individuals and building confidence, targeting the children with anxiety or social needs, or neurodiverse needs that will benefit from this sort of attention.
2. Producing fabulous visual outcomes unique to each school community
The design for Eldon Primary School celebrated all that the children loved about the school and was based on their own drawings.
Broadwater school project reflected their school values, quiet garden and all the insects that the children loved.
The amphitheatre wall of Hove Bilingual school featured wildlife from both European and South American countries, in joyful colours chosen by the children.
3. Developing our own project experience and artistic work
Kathy previously worked as a Head Teacher and partnered with a mosaic artist to make a mosaic in her school, as well as experience in her own mosaic projects. This project will take Kathy’s artistic experience to a new level, yet still bringing the same attention to the children’s needs and growth.
Sue has project managed one-off school projects and private commissions before, but will be doing so on a larger scale, and developing her skills by spending more time with individual children, alongside Kathy.
Kathy and Sue met learning ‘sculpture for mosaic’ and are excited to develop these new skills in some of the school projects.
